A 1997 American historical drama film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the true story of the 1839 mutiny aboard the slave ship La Amistad
(note: this was an assignment on my afro-asian literature subject when I was in sophomore which I posted on my tumblr then because I didn't have a blog yet.)

Best Quote“They’re entertainers…but why do they look miserable?”
Just what Psychology says: the people who often make others happy are the ones who are usually sad. There are people who serve as other people’s source of laughter, who, in reality, can’t even make themselves happy. These people are hiding in their masks so the audiences won’t notice, but then, eyes speak louder. They may look happy, but their eyes says they’re not, that their heart and soul is in fact, filled with loneliness.
Summary:
Cinque once lived a peaceful life with his family and fellowmen, until one day, they were captured and were sent to be traded/enslaved by the whites. They were carried in the ship which was named “La Amistad”, in where they suffered a lot in the hands of the whites. But one night, they managed to fight and get rid of the whites and they were free. In their way home, a reinforcement of the white people came, captured, and brought them in their place where the jurisdiction happened.
The whites wanted to imprison/enslave Cinque and his fellowmen but Queen Isabella II helped them. Baldwin and Joadson, their lawyers, helped them in the court. They won the local trial and they thought they could already go back home to their place but the whites demand for a national trial. Baldwin and Joadson did everything to free them with the help of Cinque’s translator. They asked for the help of another lawyer and that led them to success. The Mendes all went back to their places.
Reflection:
No one has the monopoly of people just as no one has monopoly of the world.
We, people were made different from each other not for the reason of war but for the very reason of ACCEPTANCE. We should accept each other’s differences and not use it against them. If so, maybe, just maybe, the world would be a better place. No racism, no stereotyping, no bullying, no war between nations.
EQUALITY. God did not create superior nor inferior human beings. We are all equal, we should not degrade each other nor deprive their human rights. We all have equal human rights.
After all, no one has the monopoly of people just as no one has monopoly of the world…just God.
