U-Week was once again celebrated in my school and with accord, days and nights of practices were spent with aching body and hungry soul. I almost forgot how to study again...
Since my freshmen years I have been a part of the Speech Choir in Theater, nothing but that alone, for the U-week. In this post I'll tell you why this year is the best ever performance I had. But first, let me tell you 5 things I learned from Speech Choir.
1. The practices. Things worthy of having doesn't come easy. For a 30-minute performance, we spent 3 weeks straight to formulate our concept, create actions and tableau, run-through with music and lights. How many liters of sweat we excreted, clothes we changed, money we spent, laughs and tears we shared, are the same amount of fulfillment we got after the performance.
2. The opponents. Others will bring you down, God will raise you up. Ever since, this has always been the problem. The bashers, the biases, the faults. However, they are not something relevant to be wasting too much time with. They are all challenges that adds up to the glory.
3. The team. The greatest gift of being a performer is performing with people who have the same goals as yours. Whatever result comes out cannot trade the value of the family spirit built within the duration. True that joining this event is a sacrifice but then the exhaustion vanishes because of the people around you who believe in you, do things with you, celebrate with you, cry with you, and just there...for you. I love you team speech choir, always and forever, you are in my heart. I may forget the lines we've thrown and the actions we've done, but I will never forget you.
4. The Acceptance. If there will be winners, there will be losers. Accept defeat, learn from mistake. Experience is the best teacher. Nuff said.
5. The Prize. It's not about the title. It's more than just winning. It's the fulfillment upon doing the best you can, and getting what you deserve. Doesn't matter how much you've suffered or how much you've sacrificed, everything falls into what it should be, so just give your all and more will be given back to you.
As I said, the best part of my college life is Speech Choir. It is more than just performing...it is life. The reason why this year's Performance is the best, first of all because this is my last. Four years I've been doing the routine every August to prepare for September's competition, and 3 years we owned the crown that was more than the crown. In my freshmen year we failed but that was the best motivation ever, although in my heart we are the winner. Second, because this is not the usual competition. No trainers allowed, no alumni, practice is only until 9pm, and the bombardment of requirements in major subjects. It wasn't easy, it was never easy, but we nailed it, as everybody proclaimed. Formulating the concept with the team, creating actions, planning for costumes and make-up, choosing technical components, even making props, we did it by ourselves. Thanks to everyone who were part of the team. Lastly, this is the best performance because WE MADE IT THE BEST. We did everything we can, we gave everything we have. No regrets, just success.
