1898. Four years since Jose Rizal was killed, ordered by the Governor General Despujol. His death setting was: Rizal surrounded by Filipino soldiers, surrounded by spanish soldiers. He was fired by the Filipino soldiers because if they won't, the spanish soldiers will kill them.
Heneral Antonio Luna too, was killed by soldiers with their own will.
This is a very moving film portraying the history of the Philippines, set during the Philippine-American war, under Emilio Aguinaldo's regime, with the leadership of Heneral Luna--impulsive, hot-tempered, principled, and bravest of all. He was the best general. He had a plan and vision for the country, but in between him and his goal are the people who do not believe in him, those who became allies with the Americans--who killed many Filipinos already (led by Arthur McArthur).
In the beginning of the film, Luna presented his uniform, designed by his brother, Juan. He wanted all the soldiers to wear the same. The symbolism for that is the Filipino's own identity, and unity. Which since then and until now, I doubt, is present.
It's just sad that history repeats it's self, or worse, it did not actually stop, what happened in the past remains until now. They say, the only constant thing in the world is change, but where is change in our nation?
Favorite Line from the movie:
"Ingles-Inglesin mo ako sa bayan ko? Punyeta!"
Favorite Character(aside from HL)
Eduardo Rusca - Archie Alemania
Last notes:
The war is over between U.S and PH. But the little (?) wars between the Filipino people and themselves are still rampant. Politicians bashing each other, netizens disrespecting the President, groups bombing, religions taking over. How will we be able to escape this labyrinth?
